Mesothelioma is a very aggressive asbestos cancer that can affect the mesothelial lining of the lungs, abdomen, and heart. It is overwhelmingly and predominantly caused by exposure to asbestos. Asbestos was used heavily in the United States for decades and continues to be present in a large number of buildings, so anyone may have been exposed and be a victim of mesothelioma, even if they didn’t work with directly with asbestos.
From the 1920’s to the end of the 1970’s, union workers, such as those that worked in construction or in manufacturing, were among those who had been exposed to asbestos on the job. There were also a large number of occupations within the US military that involved working with or around asbestos, so veterans are also common victims of mesothelioma.
Asbestos Negligence
Today, thousands of mesothelioma victims continue to be diagnosed from asbestos exposure they experienced working at a variety of occupations during the 20th century.
Manufacturers of asbestos products were well aware of the link between asbestos, mesothelioma and other asbestos diseases. Tragically, many companies chose to ignore this knowledge or even cover it up so as to continue their profit-making. Even though laws limiting asbestos exposure weren’t in place until the 1970’s, companies that knowingly exposed workers to asbestos can be held financially responsible for their negligence.
Other Occupations with Mesothelioma Victims
Please review this list of other occupations commonly linked with asbestos and mesothelioma. Family members of these workers could also be at risk becaise asbestos could have been tracked home on clothing or shoes.
This list is meant to be informative and helpful, but it isn’t a comprehensive listing of every occupation that could have involved asbestos. If you see your occupation listed, or if you believe you were exposed to asbestos even though your occupation isn’t listed, it is extremely important that you be screened for mesothelioma by a physician right away. We also highly recommend you contact one of our mesothelioma trial lawyers for a free consultation if you are diagnosed with an asbestos- related health issue.
