Sricharan Chalikonda, MD
Dr. Sricharan Chalikonda is a nationally recognized physician leader and pioneer in the use of advanced surgical procedures for peritoneal mesothelioma and other abdominal cancers and diseases. He is the Vice Dean of Practice and Chief Clinical Transformation Officer at Dell Medical School at the University of Texas, Austin.[1]
Education and Career
Dr. Chalikonda earned his medical degree from Kasturba Medical College and a masterās degree in healthcare administration from Ohio University. He completed an internship and residency in General Surgery and a fellowship in Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic, followed by a Surgical Oncology fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.[1]
He practiced at the Cleveland Clinic in Columbus, Ohio, holding the positions of chair of surgical operations and director of robotic surgery. Dr. Chalikonda moved on to the Allegheny Health Network, becoming the associate chief medical officer and surgical institute chair. He was also a professor of surgery at Drexel University College of Medicine.
Today, Dr. Chalikonda is the chief clinical transformation officer and the vice dean of practice at Dell Medical School at the University of Texas.
Dr. Chalikondaās skills include the complex surgical procedure known as cytoreductive surgery withĀ hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemoperfusion, which involves the removal of as much tumor material as possible, followed by the administration of a highly concentrated, heatedĀ chemotherapyĀ solution.
Professional Memberships and Activities
Dr. Chalikonda is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the American Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association, and the Society of Surgical Oncology. In addition to his surgical practice, he leads clinical operations for the Allegheny Health Networkās physician organization, a role that includes oversight of surgical services provided at AHNās inpatient and outpatient facilities.[1]
Research
Dr. Chalikondaās research has explored many issues and advancements pertinent to his field, including the treatment of peritoneal mesothelioma, the surgical treatment of pancreatic cancer, and the minimally invasive treatment of liver disease.[1]
